Dental exams
A regular dental exam is an important part of preventive health care. After diagnostic x-rays and digital photos have been taken, one of our dentists will thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, and mouth for any signs of dental problems. Each visit will be different depending on your situation, but checkups usually include several steps. We start by reviewing your concerns, dental chart, and medical history so we can determine the most appropriate care for you. We recommend a checkup at least every six months so we can identify and prevent a variety of oral health problems. With regular exams, we can catch problems early and help you maintain your oral and general health.
Tooth Extraction | Extraction of wisdom teeth.
Tooth extractions
Good oral hygiene should always be practiced, as the loss of just one tooth can have a major impact on your oral health and appearance. Although dentists will use all measures to prevent tooth loss, there are still necessary occasions when a tooth extraction may be needed. A tooth may need to be extracted for the following reasons:
-
severe deterioration
-
advanced periodontal disease
-
infection or abscess
-
orthodontic correction
-
Badly positioned teeth
-
Fractured teeth or roots
-
impacted teeth

Dental cleaning
Teeth cleaning, also known as prophylaxis, is a procedure to remove tartar (mineralized plaque) that can develop even with careful brushing and flossing, especially in areas that are difficult to reach with routine tooth brushing. It is often done by a dental hygienist. Professional cleaning includes dental scaling and polishing and debridement if too much tartar has built up. This involves the use of various instruments or devices to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth.
Most dental hygienists recommend a professional dental cleaning every six months. More frequent cleaning and examination may be necessary during the treatment of dental and oral disorders. A routine dental exam is recommended at least once a year. This may include selected annual dental x-rays. See also dental plaque identification and removal procedure. In between cleanings by a dental hygienist, good oral hygiene helps prevent cavities, tartar buildup, and gum disease.
